Founded by Norm Shomo and his daughter Rachel Wandell, the REstory team is a close family dedicated to helping DIY-inspired homeowners make their dream space a reality.

We are a dad and daughter team hailing from Detroit, Michigan - the birthplace of American grit. In 2016, we launched a home redesign business with a special emphasis on using reclaimed barnwood from around Michigan. Norm is a master craftsman capable of doing almost any remodel project you want, or building any custom piece your heart desires. Rachel is by no means a professional designer, but it turns out that she has an eye for things and, most importantly, knows how to pull your dream design from your soul with a handful of questions. Together, we are helping DIY-inspired homeowners ACTUALLY get their dream projects done. We believe that a great space is a collection of great stories. Let us help you write yours.

Design you can afford

We want our brand to show people that creating the space of their dreams doesn't have to be as expensive or as difficult as it seems, so long as you have the right partners in the process. Not everyone has the skills or experience to be a craftsman, but many people would be happy to put in the time and sweat with a little help. Using reclaimed materials, budget-conscious purchases, and as much work from the homeowner(s) as they are willing to give, we can help people knock off a whole lot more on their wish list than a typical contractor. We are a one-stop shop, and we'll be part of the process from the first walk-through until the last decoration is placed.

design you can adore

The best part of what we can offer is a story you can tell. We believe that a great space is a collection of great stories. Maybe that refinished table was your grandpa's. Or the wood we used came from a barn in your home state. Perhaps you built the shelves yourself under our tutelage. We don't want to simply help you redesign or restore a space, we want to help you REstory it at the same time. Not only will you love spending time in your new space, or showing it off to guests, you'll love telling the stories of it just as much.
